Saskatchewan is the largest producer of lentils in the world. In Saskatchewan, lentil is best adapted to the Brown and Dark Brown soil zones, but can be grown successfully in the Thin Black soil zone in years without excessive moisture. French Green lentils are a variety of green lentils. It is also known as “Puy lentils”. What sets them apart from standard green lentils is that they are small and slightly darker hue olive coloured, have delightfully earthy, peppery flavour and aroma.
