Heallé Organic Green Lentils 454g

Saskatchewan is the largest producer of lentils in the world. In Saskatchewan, lentil is best adapted to the Brown and Dark Brown soil zones, but can be grown successfully in the Thin Black soil zone in years without excessive moisture. Our Organic Green Lentils are growing in this well known soil zone area.

Green Lentils are an excellent source of B vitamins, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc. They’re also a great source of plant-based protein and fiber.

Green Lentil benefit

  1. Health-promoting polyphenols, eating lentils is associated with an overall lower risk of heart disease, as it has positive effects on several risk factors.
  2. Overweight or obese people with type 2 diabetes found that eating a one-third cup (60grams) of lentil each day in 8 week, increased levels of ‘good’ HDL cholesterol and significantly reduced levels of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
  3. A great source of folate, it's believed that they may help prevent excess homocysteine from accumulating in your body. High levels of homocysteine is another risk factor for heart disease. These can increase when your dietary folate intake is insufficient. Folate is crucial during early pregnancy to reduce the risk of birth defects of the brain and spine.
  4. The soluble fiber in lentils helps stabilize blood sugar levels. If you have insulin resistance, hypoglycemia or diabetes, lentils are full of complex carbohydrates that can help you control your blood glucose levels.
  5. A good source of important minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc. Iron deficiency causes anemia while zinc is one of several nutrients necessary for fending off infections.
  6. Provide antioxidants such as Vitamin A and Vitamin C, which bind with and destroy free radicals, reducing oxidative damage to cells. Lentils also have a high content of tannins, phytochemicals that prevent cancer growth, making them a good addition to any diet.
